Support (Chigiri)

Chigiri is a tear-off notepad for your iPhone. It opens straight to a blank sheet you can write on with your finger. When you're done, pull the binding at the top down to tear the sheet off.

Requires iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Available in Japanese and English.

How to use

Write

Write with your finger. The ink is black. The line width is set automatically to suit your screen size; touch and hold "Pen" to choose "Thin", "Regular" or "Thick" instead. Your choice stays after you tear off a sheet or reopen the app. The toolbar at the bottom has four buttons: "Undo" (↶), "Pen", "Eraser" and "Post to X and tear".

Eraser

Trace over a line with the eraser to remove that whole line.

Tear off a sheet

Pull the reddish-brown band at the top of the sheet (the binding) downward. Once you have pulled far enough you feel a click; let go and the sheet tears off and falls away, revealing a fresh blank sheet underneath. Let go before that and the sheet springs back. Right after the app launches, "↓ Pull here to tear" is shown on the band for 10 seconds.

Tap "Post to X and tear" in the toolbar, choose "Post and tear this sheet" on the confirmation sheet, and pick a destination in the share sheet. The sheet becomes an image with the app name in the lower right. If you pick X, "#Chigiri" (or "#ちぎりメモ" in Japanese) and an App Store link are added to the post text; you can remove them before posting. When sharing completes, the sheet is torn off. If you close the share sheet instead, the sheet stays.

Shortcuts and the Action button

Use the "Open the sheet" shortcut to open the app. To put it on the Action button, go to Settings → Action Button → Shortcut.

FAQ

Can I get a torn sheet back?

No. There is no trash or history, and we never hold your content, so it cannot be restored.

Does closing the app erase the sheet?

No. The same sheet stays until you tear it off. There is only one sheet, and no list of past sheets.

I hear no sound

There is no sound while your iPhone is in Silent mode. Volume and haptics follow your iPhone settings; the app has no sound or haptics settings of its own.

Can I save a sheet to Photos?

No. To keep sheets from piling up, saving the image is removed from the share options.

What if I cancel on the X post screen?

That depends on the X app. The sheet may be torn off.

How do I tear off a sheet with VoiceOver?

On the binding ("Binding"), swipe up or down to choose "Tear off this sheet", then double-tap. A double-tap alone does not tear it.

I see "This sheet couldn't be kept. Check your free storage."

Your iPhone is low on storage, so the sheet could not be written to the device. Free up some space; the next time you write, the sheet is written out and the message goes away.

What happens when I switch to a new iPhone?

If you restore from an iPhone backup, the sheet you were writing on (the current sheet) comes back too.

Can I change the pen width?

Touch and hold the pen button to choose Thin, Regular, or Thick. The ink is black only.

Is there a settings screen?

No.

Is what I write sent anywhere?

No. The only thing that leaves your device is an image you choose to post yourself.
